Friends of the Living Prairie Museum

The grant will contribute to a multi-year project by the Friends to establish a native prairie seed propagation site at the Living Prairie Museum in Winnipeg.

In 23 January 2023 Dr. Robert (Bob) W. Nero passed away after a long and productive life as scientist, ornithologist, naturalist, owl bander and poet. His contributions to the ornithological literature and all facets of nature, especially of the Prairie Provinces, are too many to list. 

I (he/him) am an Independent Researcher focusing on Lepidopterans-at-risk including Poweshiek skipperling (Oarisma poweshiek) and Mottled duskywing (Erynnis martialis). Rime frost (as in this photo) forms under heavy fog conditions (the previous night), causing the supercooled water droplets to freeze on contact with thin objects. Similar-looking hoar frost develops as water molecules undergo direct sublimation on objects, without foggy air. Calm air permits the formation of beautiful crystal formations, which eventually shower to the ground and evaporate .(R. Wrigley)
