Toilets: There are toilets at the Brokenhead Ojibway Nation, but not along our paddling route.
Boats: If you don’t have a canoe or kayak, we can try to partner you with a canoe owner who is looking for a bow paddler.
Mandatory safety equipment for all Grey Hares paddling activities: • A Personal Floatation Device (PFD). • A sound signalling device (AKA "whistle"). • A bailer. • A buoyant heaving line (AKA "rope") at least 15 metres long. • Extra warm clothes. A sponge is a good idea (especially for a kayak) because it helps you completely drain your boat.

An Arctic Voyage
Date: Tuesday, October 28, 2025 Location: Westworth United Church 1750 Grosvenor Avenue Admission: $5 for members (non-member rate $10) Peregrinations in the Arctic and North Atlantic: landscapes and wildlife
This presentation will illustrate with many photos the magnificent landscapes and wildlife of Arctic and North Atlantic areas that Pierre Richard was lucky to cover over many years as a guide and marine biology speaker from small expedition cruise ships.
Bio: Pierre was born in Montréal and raised in Québec City. He has been an avid naturalist since his teens. Vacationing along the St. Lawrence estuary in the summer months, he developed a keen interest in marine life and, in particular, whales, seals, and seabirds. Pierre was one of the first naturalists on board St. Lawrence whale-watching cruises in the 1970s. He completed a bachelor of science in biology at McGill University and a master of science at Université du Québec à Montréal. Then, he was employed for thirty years as a marine biologist and scientist at Fisheries and Oceans Canada, during which time he conducted field research on beluga whales, narwhals, and walrus. Pierre has authored many scientific publications and three nature guides on marine mammals. Now retired from Fisheries and Oceans, Pierre can spend more time as a nature guide and naturalist interpreter, his first love. Since 2004, he has been a regular guide on more than twenty of Adventure Canada's Arctic and North Atlantic expeditions. He has also participated in several expeditions in the Southern Ocean and Antarctica. An outdoor enthusiast in his spare time, Pierre enjoys birdwatching wherever he goes and has pursued that passion across the world. Pierre enjoys being outside on a ship deck, in a Zodiac, or on land looking for wildlife.
