Time: Meet before 9:30 AM. Launch before 10:00.
Launch location: Happyland Park from the west end of Prosper Street. This is point #36 on the on the Paddling the Seine map. There is a large grassy area to launch from.
Description: We will paddle upstream to the culvert at the Windsor Park Golf Course (Windsor Park Nordic Centre), and then turn around and paddle downstream to the launch location (14K). This is mainly section 2 on the Paddling the Seine map. Some of us may also then want to paddle downstream to Marion Street and beyond ... and back to the launch site. The Seine River within Winnipeg is fairly shallow and very popular, and there are dozens of potential locations to disembark if needed.
Lunch: There is a good lunch location under the steel golf/ski bridge at the Windsor Park Golf Course (Windsor Park Nordic Centre).
Boats: If you don’t have a canoe or kayak, we can try to partner you with a canoe owner who is looking for a bow paddler.
Mandatory safety equipment for all Grey Hares paddling activities:
• A Personal Floatation Device (PFD).
• A sound signalling device (AKA "whistle").
• A bailer.
• A buoyant heaving line (AKA "rope") at least 15 metres long.
• Extra warm clothes.
A sponge is a good idea (especially for a kayak) because it helps you completely drain your boat.
Rating: Novice (bow paddler in the canoe of an experienced stern paddler) to intermediate.
Bring: Lunch, water, sunscreen, your name tag, and extra warm clothes.
