23 people have registered for this activity as of September 3 evening.
Background
Grey Hares has had successful car-camping / day-paddling / day-hiking activities at Rushing River in 2022 (24 Grey Hares), Caddy Lake in 2023 (32 Grey Hares), and Black Lake in 2024 (31 Grey Hares).
Our plan for Tulabi Falls in Nopiming Provincial Park this past June was moved to Spruce Woods because of the provincial fire situation, and it was ultimately cancelled because of provincial travel restrictions.
Dates
We have chosen Tuesday September 9 to Thursday September 11 (3 days / 2 nights) for Camping / Paddling / Hiking at Otter Falls.
Wednesday September 10 to Friday September 12 (3 days / 2 nights) is a possible backup based on poor weather on the Tuesday, and Tuesday September 9 to Friday September 12 (4 days / 3 nights) is a possible extension based on great weather and/or people's preference. We are not available on Monday September 8.
Otter Falls Campground
The Otter Falls Campground has 75 campsites, modern washrooms, and a showers building. There are currently (Sep 8) 52 campsites available for Sep 9 to 11, so reservations will not be necessary. We should probably pick sites in the west part of the campground nearest the beach for easy launching. The camping fee is $13.85 or $16.85 (electric) per night per site.
A Manitoba Provincial Park Vehicle Permit is not required in 2025.
Paddling and hiking
There are numerous options for paddling on the Wiinnipeg River system (launching from the campground), and also for hiking (a short drive).
Mandatory safety equipment for all Grey Hares paddling activities:
• A Personal Floatation Device (PFD).
• A sound signalling device (AKA "whistle").
• A bailer.
• A buoyant heaving line (AKA "rope") at least 15 metres long.
• Extra warm clothes.
A sponge is a good idea (especially for a kayak) because it helps you completely drain your boat.

Grey Hares camping trips
Key features of almost all Grey Hares camping trips include carpooling, sharing of campsites, canoe partnering, and cooperative suppers at Grey Hares' Eureka Northern Breeze screen tent.
